Tis the season of goodwill… but don’t “fall foul of the Bribery Act”
Posted on : 07.12.2011 | by Grazia | Comments (0)This is the message that Royal Mail has circulated to its staff in the run up to Christmas. According to guidance on the Royal Mail website, staff who accept gifts valued at more than £30 are likely to “fall foul of the Bribery Act”. However one has to ask if Royal Mail has issued Bribery Act guidance or provided formal Bribery Act training to its staff? How can companies feel assured that staff fully understand the requirements of the Bribery Act 2010 with just a few do’s and don’ts from management in the run up to Christmas? This doesn’t say much for how the Act should be interpreted and applied in the work place. Given that Lombard Chambers has experience of designing anti-bribery procedures and controls and can help organisations to implement these through its online Bribery Act Training Package, we urge organisations to take up this cost effective online training in order to fully understand why and what adequate procedures need to be put in place to mitigate the risk of bribery in their business activities. Our online demo shows that our Bribery Act training provides realistic illustrative examples that will enable organisations to consider their risk exposure and put in place the necessary mitigating controls. Lombard Chambers’ online Bribery Act training is not intended to create a disproportionate administrative burden on organisations but is instead designed to provide practical support to ensure that people within their organisation (and appropriate third parties) understand and believe in the anti-bribery procedures they have in place and they feel confident that they know how to behave in a given situation or where to turn if they are unsure.
