Gordon has specialised in crime for 20 years and has both prosecuted and defended in all types of cases as a junior, a leading junior and recently in Silk. As a junior Barrister, he was a Category 4 prosecutor for over 10 years.

Since taking Silk in 2006, Gordon has been involved in many substantial drug, murder and fraud cases, many of which have been VHCC cases. He has conducted cases all over the North West of England and beyond. Gordon has also considerable experience in cases which have been heard in the Court of Appeal.

  • R v Richard Kemp [2011] - defended a wholesale supplier of pharmaceuticals in UK and Eire in what was the largest case of counterfeit pharmaceuticals imported into the UK. The defendant was acquitted after trial. Very complex and detailed fraud allegation prosecuted by MHRA.

    R v Khan [2011] - successfully defended a murder trial in Manchester with the allegation of contract killing. Defendant was acquitted after a 7 week trial.

    R v Philips Brown [2010] defending murder (Liverpool Crown Court)

    R v Rashid and others [2010] – prosecuting election fraud (Leeds Crown Court)

    R v Colin Cain [2010] – defended high profile random murder of a your 15 year-old army cadet (Liverpool Crown Court)

    R v Raeben Kareem [2010] – defence of murder and attempted murder of 2 others after imprisonment and torture by Kurdish Iraqi (Bradford Crown Court)

    R v Lee Almond [2009] – defending conspiracy to murder (Liverpool Crown Court)

    R v John Brown [2004-2007] – this was known as the IKEA fraud and I was instructed to represent the main defendant employed by IKEA. The case was VHCC and from start to finish lasted some 3 years (Birmingham Crown Court)

    R v Mendel Rand [2006] – defence in huge money laundering case. Defendant was a Holocaust survivor and well into his 70s (Manchester Crown Court)

    R v Guildford [2006-7] – large drug supply case (Derby Crown Court)

    R v Shane Thomas [2006] – defence of man who as indicted with shooting in club in Bradford. Defendant was target criminal in West Yorkshire and was known to be involved in many gun crimes (Leeds Crown Court)
  • R v McGee [2006] – police misconduct by Police Officer (Preston Crown Court)

    R v Frank Murray [2006] – GP indicted with historic sexual abuse (Liverpool Crown Court)

    R v Jeanette Burke [2006-7] – defence of main defendant in international drug smuggling case involving something like 20+ defendants.

    R v Frank Lund [2007] – defendant indicted with murder of wife after she had taken potentially fatal overdose – essentially case of assisted suicide

    R v Mark Cumberpatch [2007] – defence of man who was alleged to be “enforcer” for drug gang. Two trials were conducted – one at Sheffield Crown Court and one at Brighton Crown Court

    R v William Collis [2007] – murder by defendant of his wife having been reunited with earlier girlfriend on website – Friends Reunited (Preston Crown Court)

    R v Liam Cromie [2009] – defendant stabbed unknown / unarmed individual in Preston. The case was gang related street violence of a person who was a victim of mistaken identity

    R v Lee Almond [2008-2009] – defence of defendant who was Category A prisoner indicted with Conspiracy to murder by way of a contract shooting organised in Liverpool and Sheffield and involved 3 targets in Coventry. Complex multi defendant case with resulted in acquittal of conspiracy to murder on a re trial. Initially jury failed to agree

    R v David Hibbs-Turner [2008] – defence of man indicted as main defendant in huge drug importation and of organising a contract killing (Liverpool Crown Court)
  • R v Babar Qasam [2008] - defence of man indicted with organising conspiracy to murder from inside prison (Preston Crown Court)

    R v John Reeves [2008] – defence of man indicted with contract shooting / so called “honour killing” (Leeds Crown Court)

    Operation Talmine [2009] – Electon Fraud from Bradford West with numerous defendants (Leeds Crown Court)

    R v Stella Taylor [2009] – one of main defendants in very large drug importation case (Liverpool Crown Court)

    R v Gary Finlay [2009] – “revenge” murder of father and attempted murder of son – high profile case (Liverpool Crown Court)

    R v Joshua Spruce [2009] – defence of man indicted with street violence murder of older man who sought to remonstrate with youths in Northwich. Case attracted much media attention (Chester Crown Court)

    R v Paul Gerrard [2009] – defence in case of street violence / pre-meditated attack (Chester Crown Court)

    In addition to these named cases, Gordon has prosecuted and defended in many cases of which a large number were straightforward. Many cases identified have involved detailed telephone and cell site evidence.

    In addition disclosure issues are a constant theme in cases and very often such disclosure has been of assistance to individual defendants.
